Manhattan Landmark - Carnegie Hall
Built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, Carnegie Hall is one of the most famous venues in the United States for classical music, renowned for its beauty, history and acoustics. Located on 7th Avenue between 56th and 57th streets, the Hall’s main auditorium named for the violinist Isaac Stern, is enormously tall, seats 2,804 on five levels, and visitors to the top balcony must climb 137 steps. Among its numerous world premieres is "An American in Paris" by George Gershwin performed on December 13, 1928, by the New York Philharmonic, with Walter Damrosch conducting.
